PREVENT THE MURDER, CREMATION AND DISAPPEARANCE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS IN PERÚ

After murder, cremation and disappearance from the ashes of Dr Abimael Guzmán Reinoso, the corrupt Peruvian ruling classes continue their political persecution against popular fighters and political prisoners.

Faced with the complaint of our comrade Elena Yparraguirre for the crime against her husband, the response was isolation, unfounded attacks and the consequent greater risk to her life and health. Faced with the demand for the delivery of Dr Guzmán’s ashes and guarantees for her life, the authorities exempt themselves and turn a deaf ear. Our comrade Margot Liendo Gil, seriously ill, is prevented from being released as she should, pretending that she dies to apply the monstruos law of burning and disappearance of her remains. Similar action is being sought against Laura Zambrano, who is also seriously ill, and against Osmán Morote, who has been denied the liberty that is his legal right. With them and with the other communists and revolutionaries who rose up against the oppressive order, they want to punish all rebellion and protest against exploitative and oppressive capitalism.

Callao Naval Base prison continues to apply torture and absolute isolation by the Navy against the fellow political prisoners held there for decades.

The political prisoners of last century People’s War, with more than 25 years in prison, have faced torture, defamation and death, standing firm in defense of revolution and serving the people wholeheartedly. While the reactionary military and political leaders have been mired in corruption and political persecution, the political prisoners, children of misery and struggle, have remained incorruptible and unshakable. The general amnesty and reintegration into society without any discrimination is what corresponds and serves the democratisation of Peruvian society.

In addition, the persistent struggle of our people in defense of their rights, against neoliberalism, for a new constitution and for socialism has been violently repressed causing deaths, injuries and new political prisoners that maintain their firmness and combativeness. Prisoners of People’s War and the new prisoners of the political struggle are part of the best children of Peruvian people. Their prison is an infamy that must end.

The so-called Olimpo Operation that arrogantly imprisoned almost a hundred social activists has been unmasked all over the world for its injustice and arbitrariness. Even the UN Human Rights Council has spoken out and called the attention of Peruvian State. And if people straggle, especially our relatives, has managed to get some out of prison, 27 comrades remain unjustly imprisoned, of whom 4 are in a situation of kidnapping, because the court order to give them house arrest is not being complied with. Legally, not having promoted or practiced violence, as expressly recognised by judicial authorities, these fellow political prisoners are also prisoners of conscience of Peruvian State. If we add to this the persecution and imprisonment of other left-wing leaders and activists for questioning neoliberalism, we will clearly see the magnitude of the political persecution of Peruvian reaction carried out by DIRCOTE at prosecution hands, endorsed by corrupt judges and incited by the recalcitrant right-wing.

Political persecution must end and political prisoners of yesterday and today must be released to advance in the democratisation of Peruvian society, leading to a new Constitution through a constituent assembly without political persecution against anyone. The constituent power is held by the people and no law or Parliament can prevent them from exercising it. They may enact laws that prohibit referendums, that prevent constituent assemblies, that perpetuate spurious constitutions, but if the people decide to exercise their constituent power, no law or Congress can prevent it. The truly democratic forces must converge in a broad torrent that sweeps away the retrograde forces, that shapes the constituent assembly and that dictates the new Constitution that the people decide.

The tireless struggle of our family and friends since the ’80s is exemplary. Many fell by the wayside, but new generations continue and will continue without fail to show solidarity and fight for their own who fight for a better world. We pay tribute and recognition to them, knowing that they will continue to do so consciously and in an organised manner as part of the struggle for the freedom of political prisoners in Perú and the world.

We deeply appreciate the expressions of internationalist solidarity with the political prisoners of Perú, and we also express our support and fight for the freedom of Filipino, Indian, Spanish, Palestinian, Colombian, Chilean and worldwide political prisoners. We especially recognise the great tribute to Chairman Gonzalo made in the five continents of the Earth. It is our unwavering commitment to follow his communist example, to embody the immortal Gonzalo Thought and to fight to the end for socialist revolution.
